इतिहास

ओरछा नगर की स्‍थापना 1501 ई्. में रूद्र प्रताप सिंह बुन्‍देला ने की थी  एवं ओरछा राजवंश की नींव रखी। इस वंश में ''चंपतराय'' व ''छत्रसाल'' प्रतापी राजा हुए। 

मलखान सिंह की मृत्‍यू के बाद 1531 ई. में रूद्र प्रताप सिंह बुन्‍देला गद्दी पर बैठा और उसने ओरछा को अपनी राजधानी बनाया उसका उत्‍तराधिकारी भारतीचन्‍द्र (1539 - 1554 ई.) ने परकोटा, राजाराम मन्दिर, शहर दीनपनाह आदि का निर्माण करवाया था। 

1554 ई. में मधुकरशाह बुन्‍देला, ओरछा का शासक बना, उसके शासनकाल के दौरान अकबर ने ''सादिक खां'' के नेतृत्‍व में ओरछा पर आक्रमण करवाया जिसमें मधुकर शाह ने अकबर की अधीनता स्‍वीकार कर ली, इसी युद्ध में मधुकर शाह के पुत्र ''द्वारेल देव'' की मृत्‍यू हो गई थी। 

कथनानुसार श्री रामलला के ओरछा में बिराजमान होने के कारण ओरछा को ''बुन्‍देलखण्‍ड की अयोध्‍या'' कहा जाता है, माना जाता है कि रामभक्ति को लेकर महारानी 'कुंवर गनेश' का विवाह कृष्‍णभक्‍त महाराज 'मधुकर शाह' से विवाद हुआ तो बात-बात पर महाराज ने कहा कि अगर श्री राम का अस्तित्‍व है तो उन्‍हें ओरछा नगरी लेकर आओ, इस पर रानी ने अयोध्‍या जाकर सरयू नदी के किनारे 21 दिन तक तपस्‍या की। दर्शन नहीं होने पर उन्‍हाेने
